Adult Ministries

First Church feels called to the continual mission of encouraging and equipping disciples through an array of adult educational opportunities. From short term to long term studies, and from topical to Biblical, we have something for everyone.

“Disciple Like Jesus”
“Ministry by Strengths”

Both of these classes are 6 weeks long and are part of our journey to membership at First Church. They are integral for those who would like to be involved in the leadership of our church.

“Ministry by Strengths” helps you learn where your strengths are and how to apply them in the life of the church.

Sunday, September 11 – Sunday, October 16 from 5:45 to 7:00 p.m.  OR
Sunday, October 23 – Sunday, November 27 from 4:00 to 5:15 p.m.

“Disciple Like Jesus” explores six aspects of being a follower of Jesus.

Have you ever done your taxes, looked down at the number in the income box and wondered where it all went? Ever felt like there wasn’t enough money to do all the important things you know you should be doing with it or wonder how to even do the important things in the first place? Ever been in a situation where you wanted to give to a good cause but didn’t because you were trying to keep up with your own bills? If so, the church is sponsoring another iteration of Financial Peace University and offering it again at a reduced price of $75 per family with a $25 rebate if you come to all ten classes. Classes will be from 4:00-6:00 PM starting on the second Sunday of September and going through November 20, excluding Halloween weekend. This class will teach you everything from retirement and budgeting to insurance and saving for your kid’s college in a down-to-earth way that is anything but dry. A signup sheet is available at the Welcome Center. Childcare is available upon request. For more information please contact Mark Rogalski at MarkKRogalski@gmail.com or at (330) 419-4085.

All are welcome to participate in any of the following activities.

We are currently doing a church-wide study by Isaac Wardell called Liturgy, Music, and Space. It leads us through discussions about the songs we sing, the words we pray, and the heart of why for 2,000 years we have gathered to worship our Triune God.

Other studies are offered throughout the year.

Women’s Bible Study
Women of all ages can choose one of two times: Tuesdays from 7-9 p.m. or Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to noon. The studies have been by such authors as Beth Moore, Priscilla Schirer, James MacDonald, and Ann Voskamp. There is a fall study from September through November and then usually 2 winter/spring studies.

Men’s Small Groups
There are currently two groups. The Tuesday Men’s Small group meets every Tuesday at 7 p.m. and the Wednesday group meets every other Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Prayer Group
Every Thursday at 9:30 am a group gathers to pray… for those on our prayer list, for those who have turned in prayer cards, for First Church, for the church in general, for our area, our nation and our world.

United Methodist Women is now United Women in Faith! The move is part of a refreshing of the organization that includes a new logo and an array of new and improved programs to nurture current members and welcome new women to join to put their love in action on behalf of women, children, and youth.

We currently have 3 “Circles” which meet on different days.

Esther Circle – meets the third Friday of the month from 12:30-2:30 p.m.

Susannah Circle – meets the second Wednesday of the month from 9:30-11:30 a.m.
